Within the award-winning, Michael Graves designed winery are 20,000 square feet of caves dug into the volcanic knoll that is immediately behind our winery. The entire winery was designed with the grand portico entrance acting like a dividing line that separates the southern side focused on the production of wine and the northern side focused on the enjoyment of wine.
The caves follow this same design element and are laid out in a similar manner. The southern side of the caves houses barrels in a temperature and humidity controlled environment perfectly designed for aging our wines until they are ready to be bottled. The northern side, on the other hand, includes the unique Cave Theater, a dramatic setting for celebrations and special events and perfectly intended for enjoying the fruits of our labor. The Cave Theater has uniquely expressive acoustics for live performances and serves as the ideal location for hosting dinners and other events.
Clos Pegase has always been known for its great estate-grown and bottled wines. The "Estate" designation means that the wines are made exclusively from grapes grown in our own vineyards and under our control. This requires a significant investment of time and money in vineyard management, but results in a higher level of quality that clearly comes through in the final wine.
At Clos Pegase we have 410 acres in Napa Valley made up of three vineyards, each with unique characteristics that bring out the very best of the grapes we grow each vintage. By working with these same three vineyards over the decades we have gotten to know the nuances that can be brought out in each wine leading to an unmatched style and level of quality.
Dark an brooding in the glass, our 2019 Hommage Cabernet Sauvignon is bursting with ripe plums, black cherries and notes of cassis. On the palate the black fruits linger and mix with a hint of crushed cassia bark and toasted oak and are surrounded by strong, balanced tannins and notes of espresso and dark chocolate. This wine is bold and sensuous with a silky texture and lengthy finish.
Our Tenma Vineyard is located in the foothills of Mount St. Helena northeast of the town of Calistoga. These 40 acres of rugged land are part of an alluvial fan spilling out from the Palisades Mountains in the northeast corner of the Napa Valley. The rocky terrain here is well-drained with a very sparse topsoil which is a perfect combination for growing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon when combined with the climate of Napa Valley. The low grape yields of these old vines result in highly concentrated wines with an elegance and complexity rarely seen, even within the famous Napa Valley. These grapes have proven to be a worthy backbone for our flagship Hommage Cabernet Sauvignon and are the reason that wine has become the pinnacle of Clos Pegase.

The Opus One 2018 offers profuse aromas of blackberry, cassis, and black cherry. Elegant notes of violets, white pepper and rose petals follow and together they deliver a very seductive bouquet. The seamlessly layered flavors build to a crescendo of fresh and juicy black-fruit, accented with hints of orange zest, licorice and dark chocolate. Beautifully balanced, the smooth round tannins and fresh acidity combine to create a soft, creamy mouthfeel and extend the flavors into a long persistent finish.
Blend: 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 5% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 1% Malbec
Reviews:
Extremely perfumed and floral with lavender, lilacs and violets to the sweet, ripe berries, such as blackberries and blackcurrants. Some slate and graphite, too. It’s full-bodied, yet ever so balanced and refined, with super fine tannins that last for minutes. Fresh herbs, such as bay leaf and lemon grass highlight the dark fruit. The quality of tannin is exquisite with wonderful polish and refinement. Lasts for minutes. So wonderful to taste now, but better after 2026.

Powerful and driven, State Ranch captivates the nose with a perfume of mixed wild berries, black cherry and aromatic herbs. At once juicy and concentrated, layers of black plum, black currant, and clove flavors unfold on the tongue. Polished tannins melt into the palate, beautifully framing the wine from the entry to the long, silky finish.
Review:
Blackcurrants, violets and other flowers. Cassis bush. Lavender. Medium-bodied with a beautiful center palate and layers of very fine tannins. Lovely length and harmony. You want to drink this one now.
