Paul Hobbs Russian River Pinot Noir is made from 100 percent Pinot Noir.
Sourced predominately from the estates that are defined by their proximity to the coast and Russian River climate, the wine displays vivid crimson and aromas of violet, Morello cherry, and black tea. Velvet tannins on the palate ride along a juicy backbone of flavors such as cranberry, Blood orange, and Damson plum. Pure and vibrant, the ruby red 2022 Katherine Lindsay Estate Pinot Noir leads with a nose full of contrasts—fragrant violets, pleasantly bitter dried orange peel, and raspberry tea in an almost confection-like blend are answered by earthier red clay, hints of sage and thyme, and spring forest floor notes. Marked energy keeps the well-structured palate vibrant, with vanilla-kissed red fruit—mountain raspberry, pomegranate, cherry—fresh and seductive at the same time. Fine-grained, almost talc-like tannins edge the long, persistent finish with palpable energy.

Pouring a medium ruby hue, the 2022 Pinot Noir Katherine Lindsay Estate comes from the Russian River Valley and is mostly produced from the Calera clone of Pinot Noir, along with Swan. Spicy and savory on the nose, it opens to vibrant notes of rose hip rose petals, brambly wild herbs, cranberries, and orange rind. Medium-bodied, it offers compact tension, with fine tannins and elegant, lasting notes of cinnamon on the finish. It’s deserving of another year or two in a cool cellar and drinking over the coming 15 years.

On the palate, notes of blue fruits, sandstone, and vanilla caress the palate, framed by supple tannins and juicy acidity creating tension. This is a bright and focused wine with a long, elegant finish.

This is so spicy, with crushed cloves, nettles and blue fruit. Sichuan spices, too. Full-bodied with juicy fruit and orange zest. Creamy and polished tannins. Wonderful depth and length. Drink or hold.

This has fantastic intensity and focus with firm and racy tannins that show blue fruits, orange peel, hibiscus flowers and plants. Medium body. Acid and tannin driven. Complex structure. 85% of this is heritage clones of Mount Eden, Calera and Swan. Drinkable, but better in two or three years.

Moving to the reds, the 2019 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley offers a medium ruby/purple hue to go with a beautiful perfume of mulberries, black cherries, Asian spices, and roasted herbs. Playing in the medium-bodied end of the spectrum, it still brings plenty of fruit, with a great mid-palate and outstanding length on the finish. It’s common in 2019 for the Russian River Valley Pinots to show a beautiful sense of freshness and elegance, and this wine delivers those qualities in spades. It can be drunk any time over the coming 7-8 years.

Medium ruby-purple, the 2019 Pinot Noir opens with broody cranberries and blackberries with touches of earth and charcuterie. The medium-bodied palate is a bit brighter than the nose would lead you to believe, with a grainy, fresh frame and gregarious, spicy fruits. It's a pretty expression that combines powerful fruit with a lighter frame than might be expected from the Russian River Valley.

In 1991, pioneering winemaker Paul Hobbs established Paul Hobbs Winery. The Paul Hobbs Katherine Lindsay Estate in Sebastopol, California, purchased in 1998, would later be the site of his Howard Backen designed winery, completed in 2003. The winery exemplifies his vision and dedication to sustainability and his on-going quest to refine the art of winemaking with minimal intervention, yet meticulous care. Our vineyard designate and appellation wines are a pure expression of our interaction with nature and place, featuring Chardonnay (Russian River Valley, Sonoma Mountain), Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast, Carneros) and Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley).

On the western slope of the south-facing Ribbon Ridge sits the lovely Lichtenwalter Vineyard. Here Willakenzie soils, derived from ancient sedimentary seabed, coax black fruits and concentrated spices out of the wines.
Aromas of blackcurrant, blueberry, blackberry, and black cherry with concentrated spices followed by hints of sandalwood, smoke and oolong tea. Depth in the mid-palate pairs with balanced acidity, and so, yet structured tannins. The Willamee Valley’s smallest AVA speaks clearly and compellingly through this wine.
This wine comes from 100% destemmed rotator barrels fermented at ambient temperature reaching a peak temperature of 73° F. The rotator barrel spun twice daily during fermentation yielding a gentle extraction. Aer fermentation, the wine went through a three-week extended maceration, allowing the tannins to polymerize, soening the wine. Aged for 12 months in French oak barrels and three months in tank, the wine was then boled aer filtration.

"Deep, brilliant red. Smoke-accented cherry, blackberry and violet scents show very good clarity and pick up a hint of spiciness with air. Chewy and focused on the palate, offering appealingly sweet dark berry and spicecake flavors that are braced by a spine of juicy acidity. Dusty tannins build steadily on an impressively long, penetrating finish that strongly echoes the cherry and floral notes.
