Gimenez Mendez Alta Reserva Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Gimenez Mendez Alta Reserva Sauvignon Blanc is made from 100 percent Sauvignon Blanc.

Gimenez Mendez Sauvignon Blanc shows a very pale hue, almost crystal clear in color. Intense and herbal bouquet in harmony with fruity notes of guava and green apple, mango and maracuja. The wine is full and ample on the palate with a very firm structure. Dry, crisp and lively in the mouth.

Sauvignon blanc grapes are hand harvested very early during some mornings of February. Banches are destemmed and delicately crushed. With a quick press, fresh and very aromatic juice are obtained. Juice is fermented in stainless steel tanks during 15 days at controlled low temperatures, between 14 to 16 °C .Once fermentation is finished lees are kept and stirred for 1 month to get a creamy texture. Then a carefully clarification is necessary. The wine is filtered and stabilized without cold, and finally bottled to keep the freshness. No oak.

Ideal to serve with very spicy seafood, sushi or salads, as well as white meats with sweet-sour sauces, paté. Serve chilled.

Review:

An un-oaked white that shines with green herbs, grapefruit zest, pea tendrils and superb acidity. It shows exotic floral notes with a steely middle. A pop of nectarine on the finish adds to its crystal clean clarity.

Avennia Sestina Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

Avennia Sestina Red Blend is made from  77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc.

The Sestina is a poetic form from Medieval France. Just as a contemporary poet can use an old form like the Sestina to express modern ideas, we use the traditional Bordeaux blend to make modern wines that express Washington fruit. Sestina is our vision for an old vine blend where the focus is on structure, balance, and complexity. This wine is designed for the cellar, but is enjoyable now.

Sestina: This wine is a blockbuster, with black currant, black raspberry, saddle leather, freshly tilled earth, vanilla, and violet on the nose. Exceedingly rich and balanced on the palate, with great poise and structure for long aging. The finish echoes with fresh black fruits, minerally touches, and floral notes.

Review:

The 2020 Sestina showed beautifully, with lots of ripe black fruits, tobacco, and spring flower notes in a medium to full-bodied, fresh, focused, elegant style. It has fine tannins and a great finish and should drink nicely right out of the gate. The tannins here are terrific.

Product Description

MCV ALV Sauvignon Blanc is made from 100 percent Sauvignon Blanc.

Aromas of guava, lime, wet Stone and citrus blossom. Flavors of passion fruit, stone fruit, crushed stone and keyur lime. This is a bigger, rounder style Sauvignon Blanc that maintains good acidity. Named after the winemaker’s sister, this wine is perfect for drinking now.

Review:

"This is a refreshing counterpoint to this winery's richer reds. Quite light in the glass, persistent aromas of lime, makrut lime leaf, lemongrass and a hint of guava show on the nose, which also offers a rainy cement minerality. The grippy sip frames ripe but fresh flavors of stone fruit and passionfruit. - MATT KETTMANN"

Winery: MCV Wines

MCV Wines opened its doors in 2011 with the purchase of four and a half tons of some of the highest quality Petite Sirah to be found in the Paso Robles AVA. Matt Villard eagerly jumped on the opportunity for these grapes and swiftly discovered an incredible wine making facility where he could in turn create his wines. Before harvest was over he found three more tons of Petite Sirah as well as some Grenache and Syrah totalling around 10 tons for 2011. Matt Villard is happy to say that they are still happily working with both the same original Petite Sirah vineyard and wine making facility.

Here at MCV, they focus on unique and interesting blends that revolve around Petite Sirah. This wonderfully dark and rich grape is smooth, elegant and delicious yet, bold, powerful and age-able. It has the unique ability to be made in various styles that can be used to create multiple wines from the same grapes. Their first two production years yielded around 500 cases each vintage. However, 2013 saw a small increase due to incorporating new grape varietals into the program and a couple new blends.
