Italy is the world’s second largest wine producing country falling behind France. Italian wine is governed by DOC and DOCG laws. Much like France’s AOC laws, they control what grape types can be planted in each region. Some of Italy’s more famous wines are the Barolo in the Piedmont  region, often referred to as the king of wine, and its queen, Barbaresco.  Perhaps the most famous of all the regions is Tuscany, not only for its beauty, but the amazing Chianti and Brunello’s that are produced in this region. Both are made from the Sangiovese grape. In the Veneto region you will find Italian wines created from the Corvina grape, made in the ancient Amarone style.

Ruffino Alauda Toscana IGT is made from 40% Cabernet Franc, 35% Merlot, 25% Colorino.

An elegant, full-bodied wine, Alauda is a harmonious sum of its parts. Rich with varietal flavors of plum and cherry from the Merlot and layered with ripe berry flavors from the Cabernet Franc, and unique balsamic and dark chocolate notes from the Colorino. The extended oak aging process integrates the blend while providing tertiary flavors of sweet spice and soft, elegant tannins for a lingering finish. This wine will age gracefully for decades.

Ruffino Modus Primo Toscana IGT Italian Red Wine is the evolution of Modus, showcasing quality fruit from three Tuscan vineyards on Ruffino's Poggio Casciano Estate, each one representing the best that this centuries-old wine region terroir has to offer. This Ruffino wine opens with a bouquet of ripe cherries and orange zest, followed by layered balsamic notes and spicy hints of sweet tobacco and vanilla.


Review:

Ripe and lively in its sensory profile, it shows notes of black plums, blackberries, sage and laurel. Juniper berries describe the secondary scene. Full body, elegant and relaxed on the palate, it closes modern and captivating. Better from 2023.

Ruffino Romitorio di Santedame Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2016

Ruffino Romitorio di Santedame Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG is made from 90% Sangiovese, 10% Colorino.

Romitorio di Santedame, a limited-production Gran Selezione from Castellina in Chianti, pays homage to a rich history while embracing a bright future. It originates from a single vineyard within the Chianti Classico's "golden basin" (Conca d'Oro) and is crafted from an exclusive blend of Sangiovese and Colorino. The latter is a native Tuscan grape variety that was nearly extinct but has experienced a revival through dedicated research and promotion efforts.

Fruity aromas typical of Sangiovese, including black cherry and ripe plum, with violet and complex chocolate and black pepper notes. The palate offers sweet tobacco and balsamic hints, while its balanced structure with refined tannins and lively acidity makes it suitable for extended aging.


Review:

You feel the oak here, suggesting vanilla and clove character, but it’s very well complemented by the dark fruit, ranging from blackberries to mulberries to dark cherries. Full-bodied, dense and decadent with a regal structure and muscular tannin backbone. The acidity cuts nicely through on the long finish and provides freshness. Drink from 2024.

Salvadori Chianti Riserva DOCG 2017 is made from Sangiovese 90% , Merlot 10

The Chianti Riserva DOCG wine is one of the types of wine envisaged by the denomination Chianti DOCG, a DOCG from the Tuscany region.
 

GRADO: 13,5%
WINE MAKING AND AGEING: The ripe grapes are picked and vinified in red with maceration on the skins for about 8 -12 days. Fermentation at a controlled temperature of 28/29 ° C. Frequent pumping over and delestage to have a strong dissolution of the anthocyanins leaving an intense and persistent fruit. Refining until March in temperature-controlled vats, aging in large barrels for at least 24 months and short passage in wood, new Allier and Cher tonneaux, part of the mass.
TASTING NOTES: its appearance is a deep ruby red color, with a good consistency. The smell, of good intensity, persistent, is characterized by fruity notes of cherry, followed by slight spicy hints of black pepper in particular. The entry into the mouth is firm, quite enveloping, with tannins in evidence but not very astringent. With a pleasant, intense and long taste, it has a very fine taste-olfactory structure.
COLORE: Ruby red color with excellent persistence.
ABBINAMENTI: Of great versatility in pairing, it prefers red meats, mixed grills and game.

Salvaterra Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2018

Salvaterra Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is made from 65% Corvina, 20% Corvinone, 10% Rondinella, 5% Oseleta.

Perfume of cherries, cocoa, tobacco and black pepper. On the palate it is complex and deep, elegant and robust at the same time, harmonious and with an excellent tannin.

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is "the essence of the territory", structured but also fresh at the same time.


Pairs with red meats, aged cheese, dark chocolate, cigars.

Review:

Abundant lively red cherries, plums and mellow milk choolate with a energetic and powerful structure, an elegant frame of velvety tannins and an attractive balsamic finish.
