The Caveau du Mont July Estate
We visited the winery in January 2007 for the first time and met Jean-Louis Ronger who organized a very nice reception for us. We enjoyed tasting his wines together with the local "tarte au sucre" (sugar pie). The owner Jean Louis Ronger has been producing wine from Bugey for thirteen years. He represents the first generation of his family to make wine. The Caveau is located in the tiny village of Bohas, a 40 minute drive from the city of Bourg-en-Bresse, famous for its "Bresse" chicken.
The Caveau du Mont July Vineyard
The region is located on the lower slopes of the Jura mountains made of calcareous or siliceous clay. Because of the topography, the vineyard is divided into 10 small parcels where 80 wine producers make Bugey wines. Production includes traditional red, rose, white, sparkling wines or marc brandy. The Bugey Cerdon area is very small, covering only 150 hectares of vines. Wines from Bugey Cerdon are not A.O.C. wines but V.D.Q.S. (Vin Delimite de Qualite Superieure).
Caveau du Mont July's vineyard measures 4 hectares (9.8 acres) but only 1.8 hectare is under vines. The yield is 72-75 hectoliters/hectare.

K Vintners The Beautiful Syrah 2018 is made from 97% Syrah, 3% Viognier.
A multi-layered beauty; perfumed, lovely. Super dark rose. Broken, unfiltered cigarette, Amaro. Densely colored with a shimmering red rim. Giving, yet just an inch at a time. One to ponder. One to enjoy.
Review:
The 2018 Syrah The Beautiful Powerline Vineyard comes from a vineyard outside of Walla Walla, in the foothills of the Blue Mountains. It was not destemmed and was brought up in neutral, larger barrels. An exotic nose of ripe blue and black fruits, lavender, sappy flowers, and herbes de Provence-like nuances give way to a medium to full-bodied, richly textured, structured wine with a mouth-filling, layered, meaty style that builds nicely with time in the glass. There's always a sappy, almost herbal edge to this beauty, and it ages beautifully. Feel free to open bottles any time over the coming 15-20 years. It would certainly be hard to pick out in a lineup of top Northern Rhône Syrahs.

Gentilhommes Vire-Clesse is made from 100% Chardonnay.
A gentilhomme is a gentleman characterized by his delicacy, thoughtfulness, and courtesy. "Les Gentilhommes" was created by brothers Richard and Stephane Martin as brand embodying the gentleman's character combined with Burgundian know-how.
From the work in the vineyard to the vinification in barrel, they are inspired to share these noble values. Quality, authenticity and long family tradition are the foundation of these wines.
This single-vineyard Chardonnay is produced in the village of Clessé, in the heart of the Mâconnais region in Burgundy, from 45 year-old vines planted on the limestone based soils of the Mount Epin.
Brillant robe with golden reflections. A nose with pear and white peach notes. Fresh, ample and full-bodied, a great balance in the mouth, with tension and subtle wooden notes. The elegance of this pure wine lingers on the palate.
Harvest is made by machine on non-irrigated vineyard. The wine has been aged on fine lees for 10 months with the major part in a stainless steel vat and the remaining in new oak barrels made out of French oak of a high quality.
No use of sulfites during harvest and vinification.
Fresh, ample and full-bodied on the palate, the wine is perfect by itself as an aperitif and delicious during the meal with grilled fish tacos or a Pad Thaï.
