Treixadura

Treixadura is a Portuguese white wine grape that is predominately grown is the Vinho Verde wine region in northeast Portugal. The grape is primarily used for blending which introduces body and light lemony aromatics to Loureiro and Alvarinho. It is also often blended with Lado and Torrontes. The lightly scented white grape can also stand alone producing light-bodied wines with citrus flavors and aromas. Treixadura is a high quality grape that is also known as Trincadiera. Originally from the moncao sub-region Treixadura produces wines with a distinctive aroma. Although they can sometimes be unbalanced, they are very flavorful. Treixadura has a lower acid level with higher alcohol levels and is used to balance and blend with other Vinho Verde varietals. The grape ripens early and produces soft and fragrant wines with a strong citrus flavor. When pruned and maintained properly, Treixadura produces herbal and apple aromas with good acidity. The full-bodied wines feature mineral flavors. Treixadura prefers soils that are covered with slate, but should be planted in regions that have cool growing seasons. Treixadura must be harvested with the acidity has reached its peak as the sugar development can be rapid overpowering the acidity.

Mascot is a small-production label founded by Will Harlan in Napa Valley. The wines under this label are made from the younger vines of Harlan Estate, BOND, and Promontory, but The Mascot bottles share an exclusive preview at the development of their estates. Founded as an initial experiment to see what the young vines were capable of producing, the wines were initially only shared with close friends and family. By 2008, Will officially released the first vintage to the public since production had increased significantly. They create just one wine made from Cabernet Sauvignon, and the bottle is aged for five years before release. Assembled into a single, youthful expression, this wine shares a glimpse into the evolution and pedigree of its parent estates.
60% Cabernet Franc, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot
The 2019 Paramour entices with notes of blueberry, iris, leather, chocolate cake, and cigar on the nose. A rich attack of layers of flavor include cherry, plum, coffee, and chocolate with bright acidity. Soft and silky tannins lead to a long finish, with cherry, blueberry, plum, and currant lingering on the palate.

A blend of 60% Cabernet Franc, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Merlot, the 2019 Paramour Proprietary Red was sourced from the Schifflet, Hudson and Stagecoach Vineyards. Blessed with floral notes, licorice and black cherries on the nose, this looks like the pick of the litter and is one reason why Napa Cabernet Franc prices are what they are. This is full-bodied and rich yet seemingly weightless, despite being concentrated, long and velvety. This is just lovely stuff.
